So what happens if you train for weeks without doing anything (i.e., eating or sleeping)? It doesn’t really seem like much, right? Most likely nothing is going to change in the muscles over the course of a week so it’s not that surprising we’ll continue training regardless. But does an increase make sense when compared with just resting at night while on steroids and using them as required by athletic competition? Well, I’ve never heard any sports scientist talk about this phenomenon but there are some people who do have opinions from time-to -time regarding supplementation during muscle growth – which usually revolves around performance enhancing drugs such Aspirin

  1. L-Arginine
    L-arginine is a naturally occurring amino acid that is commonly used as a supplement for athletes and bodybuilders. L-arginine is known to increase nitric oxide levels in the blood stream, which then increases the amount of oxygen being delivered to muscles. More oxygen means increased muscle contractions, which results in greater strength and endurance. L-arginie is also used to help improve sexual performance.
  2. DHEA
    DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. DHEA helps regulate the production of testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone in both men and women. In men, DHEA is responsible for maintaining proper erectile function and sperm count. In women, DHEA is thought to play a role in regulating menstrual cycles.
  3. Tryptophan
    Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that is necessary for protein synthesis. Tryptophan is often referred to as the “essential building block” of protein. Tryptophan provides the raw materials for making serotonin, melatonin, niacin, and vitamin B6. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that regulates mood and sleep patterns. Melatonin is a hormone that controls circadian rhythms. Niacin is a water soluble vitamin that aids in the formation of red blood cells. Vitamin B6 is a coenzyme that assists in the conversion of tryptophan to serotonin.
  4. Progesterone
    Progesterone is a female sex hormone that promotes pregnancy and lactation. Progesterone is also responsible for stimulating ovulation and menstruation. It is also used to treat endometriosis and fibroid tumors.
  5. Testosterone
    Testosterone is a male sex hormone that promotes virility, libido, and fertility. Testosterone is also responsible for bone density, muscle mass, and aggression.
  6. Cortisol
    Cortisol is a steroid hormone that is released by the adrenal gland. Cortisol is responsible for many bodily processes including digestion, immune system response, and inflammation.
  7. Insulin
    Insulin is a hormone that is secreted by the pancreas. Insulin is responsible for transporting glucose from the bloodstream into cells where it is converted into energy.
